About the Panelists:

Phil Brenner

Philip Brenner is Professor of International Relations and Affiliate Professor of History at American University. He has served as the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of the U.S. Foreign Policy Program in the School of International Service, and and as Co-Director of American University's Inter-Disciplinary Council on Latin America. A specialist on U.S. foreign policy towards Latin America, Dr. Brenner is a member of the advisory boards of the National Security Archive and the Center for Democracy in the Americas.

Arturo Lopez-Levy

Dr. Arturo Lopez Levy is a Lecturer at the University of Texas- Rio Grande Valley. Lopez Levy has taught different courses about American politics, Comparative Politics, Problems of International Relations, and Latin American Politics at the University of Texas, New York University, the University of Denver, the University of Colorado in Boulder and the Colorado School of Mines. He graduated from Cuba's Higher Institute of International Relations (Diplomatic Academy) and worked as a political analyst for the Cuban government until 1994.

Juan Triana

Dr. Triana Cordoví earned his doctorate in Economic Sciences in 1999 at the University of Havana. With the help of a Chevening Award he did post-doctoral research at the University of Wolverhampton. He has acted as a consultant for Cuban and international companies and has given conferences on Cuban economy and development issues at international universities. Currently, he is a member of the commission that advises the Cuban government on its economic reform program. He also serves as a professor at the University of Havana and Senior Researcher at the Research Centre on Cuban Economy.
